I am just going to put it all out there for the whole world to... laugh, snicker, shake your heads in dismay...when it comes to car maintenance, I am a dolt! I almost nothing about what goes into my car and how to take care of it. However, I place all of this trust in it to commute an hour each way to work, run errands, haul my kids, and take family vacations - all trusting that fairly regular oil changes and new tires when the treads don't meet the penny test - will get me through.
When I do go to one of the quick lube places, I always drive in with fear and trepidation and I can get out for less than $30, I pat myself on the back for doing such a good job in taking care of my car. Now, perhaps this issue is only specific to me but I would venture to say that there are more than a few of you out there who are thinking right now "What is this woman doing inside my head?"
Well, that routine seemed to be working just fne...until recently. Sure enough, I had just had the oil changed a couple of weeks before but that was all that was happening and one night, as I was leaving work - just about ready to get on the interstate when my car came nearly to a grinding halt and emitted a sound that made a cat on a hot tin roof seem symphonic.
So, it wasn't that I was doing such a super job keeping up with the maintenance of my car; rather the quick lube places that I was going to were doing exactly what was on the coupon that I presented and nothing more.
Somehow, I got my car back to the dealership and after I finished what can only be described as a full blown melt down, the Service Staff at Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep, scraped me off the ceiling, immediately put me in a loaner (even though it was 9:00pm) and assured me that by the next morning, they would give me a full assessment.
Now, as I see it, here's the real perk of being The Greenway Girl - I get to ask the questions that many of us are too embarrassed or afraid to ask. And what's more? I get to - we'll just call it - 'guide' the service department into putting together service packages the will not provide great value, but the assurance that your car has had a thorough inspection and that you fully aware of any pressing or issues that may become longer term problems. - Something that will never happen when opting for the lowest advertised price for an oil change wherever you can get it as opposed to developing a service relationship with a dealership who knows you and your car and has a vested interest in your vehicle and your long-term satisfaction.
Here we are heading into summer and I know that I have been giving far more thought to a couple of pair of wedges that I am pretty sure I can't live without rather than what I need to get done on my car.
But where to start? How much is it really going to cost? And after I get it done what other surprises are going to crop up on me? Are you feelin' me???
So, after spending what seemed like an eternity explaining to my Service Director and Manager how the female Spring/Summer budget gets prioritized, we were able to decide on a comprehensive service package that will set you back less that gorgeous pair of Steve Madden Crocheted Espadrilles on sale at Nordstrom’s Rack (Haven't heard of Nordstrom’s Rack? That's a whole other blog post and potentially a field trip.)

OR

Okay, so here's what we came up with:
I voted for the "Come on In; We Won't Judge You Special" but was over ridden by the "Spring into Summer Car Care Event".
For those that haven't been in for service between 6-24 months, we are offering the following:
- Oil Change (up to 6 quarts)
- 4-Wheel Tire Rotation
- Brake Inspection
- Top Off All Fluids
- Replace Wiper Blades
- 4-Tire Nitrogen Fill
- Wash & Vacuum
And here's the best part...the total cost?
$34.95!
(Pause for audible gasp.) In addition, Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep will perform their multi-point inspection which covers all of your vehicle's systems and help you plan with your Service Advisor a workable schedule to get any issues addressed.

One can only imagine that in the beginning, Chrysler's decision to enter back into the fierce compact car segment with the newly designed 2013 Dodge Dart had to have caused at least few nights of lost sleep for Chrysler executives. However, yesterday, as the first 2013 Dodge Dart rolled off the production line in Belvidere, Illinois, Chrysler had nothing but reason to celebrate.

The first 2013 Dodge Dart rolls off production line. A red Rallye with a black and red interior, the 1.4-liter engine and manual transmission.
Since the company's announcement to reintroduce the Dart to the American market in the second half of last year there has been no shortage of criticism about the updated styling of the Dart not living up to the iconic character of its predecessor or skepticism about the Dodge Dart's its ability to compete in the most crowded vehicle segment against the more conventional and popular Civic, Corolla, Cruze, Elantra, Focus and Jetta.
Recently though, what began as naysaying from industry experts has turned to nothing but glowing praise. According an article recently published by USA Today, "The 2013 Dodge Dart is significant in so many ways, including that it happens to be a very, very good compact". USA Today went on to comment on the Dart's Fiat-based design which has been slightly enlarged and restyled for the U.S., stating that "The 1.4-liter, turbocharged model with manual transmission was a delight. The 2-liter, automatic is a genteel cruiser, quiet, calm, collected on fast two-lane roads". Finally, USA Today's praise of the interior called it "...roomy, thoughtful, comfy and classy. It’ll be hard to justify a Corolla or Civic or Elantra after driving a Dart."
Even before its release, the 2013 Dodge Dart is seeing a level critical acclaim not often seen - certainly, not in the recent past - for an American made car. Developed from the underlying structure of an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the Dart is the first jointly engineered offspring of the marriage between Chrysler and Fiat.
And that synergy is proving to be one of the major contributing factors to the car's growing legions of fans, including Canada's Winnipeg Sun- declaring that the "European-inspired 2013 Dodge Dart will likely have the competition shaking in their boots", asserting that the Dart's "Overall driving dynamics are quite impressive for a compact sedan in this price range” (starting at $15,995).
Deemed one of Ward's "10 Best", many agree that the Dart’s interior is likely what will draw people to the car. "The quality and craftsmanship [are] well above previous Dodge interiors”, the Sun said. “The new Dart has been engineered with great levels of refinement, craftsmanship and fun-to-drive characteristics.”
The 2013 Dodge Dart will begin arriving at Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep in June. Which one will you test drive?

How do you judge the aesthetics of a car? Do you make a trip around the body of the vehicle, looking at all the finer points in the sheet metal, then step back and look at the thing as a whole? Does beauty for you lie under the hood, where a bigger, more powerful engine means more inherent magnificence? Generally, when someone talks about a "gorgeous automobile," they're talking about one of those two things, but you know what these definitions often leave out? The inside of the car. You know, that place where you spend literally all of your time with the vehicle?
And let's face, not all interiors are created equal. WardsAuto has chosen two models out of Chrysler's 2012 and 2013 lineup to have have the best interiors in the automotive business right now.
To come to this conclusion, Wards looked at the 40 vehicles released for the 2012 and 2013 model years that were either brand new (like the Dart) or significantly updated (like the 300). After giving all of them careful consideration, the models were named among the website's Top 10 because of technology and luxurious features usually reserved for a higher class of vehicle.
2013 DODGE DART | One Bold New Design. Over 100,000 Ways to Personalize it.
First, 2013 Dodge Dart, to be released later this year, has already created an unprecedented level of excitement.
The 2013 Dodge Dart is the first car to combine Fiat and Chrysler technology and symbolizing the combination of the two companies is built on a widened and lengthened version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
Aside from the 14 interior combinations and the ability to add over 150 Mopar® accessories is what truly differentiates the Dodge Dart from other vehicles in its class.

Tactile grains or available hand-wrapped protein vinyl surfacing
It's an interior so thoughtfully crafted and engineered, it offers interior space rivaling mid-size sedans with class-exclusive in-seat storage.
THE MOST TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED CAR IN ITS CLASS.

CLASS-EXCLUSIVE 7-INCH TFT RECONFIGURABLE DISPLAY
As the most technologically advanced car in its class, the Dodge Dart includes a number of class-exclusive features, including a premium 7-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) reconfigurable cluster display. Not only does the display deliver real-time information on performance, navigation and vehicle status, it truly comes alive with countless ways to reconfigure in full color and incredibly rich graphics never before seen on a compact car.
The 2013 Dodge Dart is tuned to deliver with the Uconnect Touch™ 8.4, featuring AM/FM/CD/MP3 and SiriusXM Satellite Radio+ with replay mode. Get up-to-the-minute weather, fuel prices, sports and movie listings with available Garmin Navigation and SiriusXM Travel Link™+. Crank up your own tunes via remote SD card or remote USB Port with iPod® mobile device control. So many features we even added steering wheel mounted controls so you can keep your eyes on the road, and your hands right where they belong.

And we would be remiss not to mention that the 2013 Dodge Dart will be the first vehicle ever to be available with one of the most sought after features for consumers - the ability to wirelessly charge smartphones. This feature, called the Powermat promises to "cut the clutter and tangled wires" that often result when drivers use dashboard power outlets. The Powermat feature will also allow iPhone, Blackberry, MP3 Players and Droid devices to charce without being plugged in.
2012 CHRYSLER 300 | COMFORT IS KING

With Americans spending hours in their cars daily between commuting to work, carpools and a host of other activities, comfort is king for many when choosing a new vehicle.

Keyless entry and start, a big 8.4-inch touchscreen and dual-zone auto climate control are all part of the sub-$30,000 package. The S and Limited trim levels offer interiors as quiet as a Lexus LS 460 and luxury that rivals the Audi A6.
We agree 100% that these two models should've made the list, because these are two of the classiest, affordable, and fuel efficient vehicles in Orlando. Additionally, the new Jeep Wrangler, Wrangler Unlimited and Chrysler 200 interiors are pretty high on our lists of great interiors as well, but we'll save that argument for another day and just enjoy an accolade that we feel is much-deserved.
Undoubtedly, these are two gorgeous vehicles from the outside but as Mom always said "beauty is also on the inside".

Greenway Automotive Group adds to its list accomplishments with largest new-vehicle sales percentage nationwide and recently being awarded #1 Certified Pre-Owned Dealer in the Southwest by Chrysler.

Greenway Auto Group headquartered in Orlando, Florida, has abandoned any triskaidekaphobia - the fear of the number 13 - they may once have had. The Orlando group increased its sales 93 percent to 24,313 in 2011. A gain that propelled the company to No. 13 on the list from No. 38 on Automotive News' Top 125 Automotive Groups, and resulted in the largest new-vehicle percentage sales gain of all 125 dealership groups last year,
Frank Rodriguez, Greenway's Chairman, attributes much of the company's success to the addition of eight dealerships over the past two years, including two Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealerships.
But Greenway's success has not been limited to new car sales and acquisitions alone. Most recently, Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep was named the #1 Certified Pre-Owned Dealer in the Southeast by Chrysler. And although the award is based on volume, Operating Partner, Conrad Letson, and Used-Car Sales Manager, Eric Kurdak agree that the Certified Pre-Owned Program is one of the dealerships biggest value drivers on the pre-owned side of their business.

Cars that carry the Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle designation have made it through a painstaking 125-point inspection and thorough reconditioning process using Authentic Mopar® Parts. Additionally, during your 7-Year/100,000-Mile Powertrain Limited Warranty or 6-Year/80,000-Mile Powertrain Limited Warranty you receive even more benefits and protection that include:
- 3-Month/3,000-Mile Maximum Care Warranty
- Towing/Roadside Assistance
- Car Rental Allowance, and
- Limited Certified Upgrade Plans
Find out more about the Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle Program by Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Ram here.
The Greenway Automotive Group operates 24 automotive dealerships in the United States. In 2012, The Group was ranked #13 among Automotive News' Top 125 Automotive Groups and ranked #37 on Ward's Top 100 Mega Dealer listing. According to Hispanic Business, the company is the #1 Hispanic-owned automotive group in the nation and is the seventh largest Hispanic owned business in the United States.

Today marks the end of the 2012 New York International Auto Show, featuring some of the hottest cars and trucks ever seen all under one roof. And this year did not disappoint.
But even with hype and excitement around events like this, it's nearly impossible for most of us 'normal folks' to take in all of the incredible luxury, cutting-edge technology and performance and mentally, not file most of these cars under the category of "Someday, When I Win the Lottery".
Additionally, I, like everyone else in the media world (both automotive and in general) have been so consumed spiraling gas prices and fuel economy. And more specifically, the 30 MPG fuel efficiency threshold that consumers seem to be establishing when researching and considering the purchase of a new car.
So, let's play a little game of Word Association: When you think of "fuel economy/efficiency" what is the first word that comes to your head? For me? Fuel Efficiency = Sacrifice. I have always just thought that higher MPG's meant small, basic, not particularly attractive car choices. And if I'm being extremely honest, until recently, it made me almost completely discount the American Automakers entirely. WOW, was I wrong! But was I alone?
So, with two Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and RAM dealerships in the Greenway Auto Group, I've been spending some time in my own back yard (aka, the car lot) and realized very quickly that not only does Chrysler do style and luxury and performance like no other; fuel economy no longer means 'sacrifice'.
In fact, there are so many great options that I couldn't begin to cover them in one blog post. So, over the next few weeks, I'll be focusing on different models. Where to start? Why not at the top, with the crème de la crème?
The 2012 Chrysler 300

Perhaps Kelley Blue Book described the Chrysler 300 best this week when they awarded it the 2012 Chrysler 300 the #1 ranking on their 10 Most Comfortable Cars to Drive Under $30,000. According to KBB experts, "The Chrysler 300 is a quiet, comfortable, stylish, well-appointed luxury sedan missing just two things: the snooty badge and the sticker shock."
With its powerful V6 and V8 engines, rear-wheel drive (RWD) platform and performance-tuned suspension, the 2012 Chrysler 300 is arguably the best-handling sedan in the segment (along with its sibling, the Dodge Charger).
INTERIOR | Comfort is King

-
8-speed transmission. with a fuel economy of 19 CTY/31 HWY

This welterweight engine delivers 363 heavyweight horsepower and the surprising punch of 394 lb-ft of torque.
Finally, to reiterate KBB's sentiments on the 2012 Chrysler 300, "It feels right to have a big, rear-drive, American sedan atop this list." KBB, we couldnt agree more!

KBB profiles 10 reasonably priced new vehicles that feature quiet rides, supportive seating and roomy interiors, among other new-vehicle creature comforts. The collective need to hold on to our cars for longer than ever before, has, without question, come to an end and new car sales seem to be stronger than ever.
Edmunds contends the current US fleet is the oldest on record, with the exception of July and August of 2009, during the federal Cash for Clunkers program.
But with not such great rebate programs in place, and in fact, some of the lowest incentives we've seen from the OEM'S since February 2003.
However, despite all that, auto-sales figures for March showed the strongest pace since early 2008.
How is this happening? Well, analysts say the evidence is irrefutable: Consumers who were holding onto aging cars through the recession are finally returning to the new-car market.
"I think people are hitting the breaking point, where they're saying, 'OK, it's better to get a new car than put more money into the old one,' " said Jessica Caldwell, senior analyst for Edmunds.
"The average (age) is running about three to four years older than what we were seeing before (the recession), but the mileage is what is really is remarkable, noticeable," he said. "We're seeing 200,000 to 250,000 miles on some cars, where we were seeing 85,000 to 130,000 or 140,000 before."
Data from those recent significant numbers indicate that are buying new now, even though economic conditions might not be ideal.
Emerging trends include:
- Average credit score is lower
- Buyers are being more frugal about high gas prices
- There are as many large SUVs being purchased... It's not as strong as the smaller-car segment,
There has been an overriding theme in the dynamic of consumers looking for cars getting 30 miles a gallon or above... Car and truck sales have done a complete reversal from 2008. Now, 65 percent to 70 percent of sales are cars in the 30 to 35 miles-per-gallon range."
If gas prices continue to increase, as expected over the spring and into the summer, it stands to reason that we will continue to see record average fuel economy of newly purchased vehicles.
Analysts warn, however, that sales are still short of pre-recession levels.
In California, the California New Car Dealers Association said statewide sales averaged about 2 million between 2000 and Caldwell said that nationwide new-car sales peaked at about 17 million before 2008, and she believes it will take time to get back to that level.
"I think that we can get 16 million, but I don't think it will happen this year or next year," she said. "I think we're looking at 2014."
According to Conrad Letson, Managing Partner of Central Florida's largest and most successful Dodge Chrysler Jeep dealership, Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep and Greenway FIAT of East Orlando, "Customers need not worry that this trend of 30 MPG will limit the shoppers experience. At Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep and Greenway FIAT, the majority of our lineup achieves an MPG of 30 or more. So customers don't have to worry about sacrificing style, performance or luxury over fuel efficiency."

It's official, Spring has officially sprung and as jubilant as I am about extended daylight hours, I am also a mom and so by nature, a worrier. More daylight in the evenings means that our children will be walking to school and waiting at school bus stops in the morning while it is still dark. This school year alone, in Central Florida, we have seen avoidable accidents that have resuled in injuries or death of 16 of our students.
The switch into Daylight Savings Time can have a dramatic effect on disrupting our regular sleep cycle as it puts us out of sync with our circadian rhythm. The biggest impacts of the time change on drivers can be felt on some of the key skills that affect the quality of our driving – poorer concentration, alertness behind the wheel and reaction time to potential hazards.
Therefore, it is critical that we all take the issue of safety on ourselves when driving, but especially during times that children are on their way to or returning from school.
By The Numbers
According to the National Safety Council, chances of being struck and killed as a pedestrian increase 1100% during hours of dark.
Additional research finds that pedestrians are three times more likely to be hit and killed by cars right after the switch.
Cornell University Cooperative Extension Program published a report that states “pedestrians walking along a road in dark clothing in the early morning or at night are first seen approximately 55 feet away, giving a driver less than one second reaction time. A driver traveling at 60 mph needs over 260 feet to stop”. Black\Blue can be seen 55 feet. White can be seen 180 feet ahead. Reflective materials can be seen at 200 - 1500 feet or more.
Prepare and Prevent
Making an effort to adapt to the time change can really pay off. Here are tips to help adjust to the time change:
-
Getting into the groove - Be aware of how your own body adapts to the time change and how that may affect your ability to concentrate and avoid hazards. Plan to get to bed earlier on Sunday to be ready for the Monday morning commute.
-
Lights on for safety - Prepare your vehicle for the change in conditions, particularly the darker morning commutes. Clean your vehicle's headlights and check they are all working properly, especially your rear lights.
-
Can you see me now? - If walking, running or biking in the early moning hours or at night, wear white or light colors, use appropriate lighting on your bike, and always wear highly-reflective gear which provides 360° visibility.
Now is the perfect time to start thinking about how to keep your family, friends, and yourself safe and share the road!

At Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep, Florida’s largest volume Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership; their mission has always been to remove as much of the confusion and traditional hassle associated with the car buying process. One of the ways Greenway is doing that is with the use of AutoTrader.com's revolutionary Trade-InMarketplace . Trade-In Marketplace aims to take the mystery out of the trade-in process by giving consumers an instant offer for their vehicle, sight unseen which is redeemable at participating auto dealerships across the country.
Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep brings additional value to its customers as a participating Buying Center for AutoTrader.com Trade-In Marketplace, Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep’s General Sales Manager, Shaun Allen states “we recognize that you may be considering trading-in or selling your car for a number of reasons.” Allen goes on to say that, “while you may be looking at a trade-in on a new or certified Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep vehicle or you would simply like to sell vehicle with the assurance that you are getting best offer possible.”
Initially launched in a few select markets in June 2009, the TIM tool became available nationwide in October 2010. In October 2011, AutoTrader.com partnered with one of its subsidiaries, Kelley Blue Book, to bring the TIM tool to its award-winning website, kbb.com. To date, more than 300,000 offers have been generated from kbb.com consumers.
The offers generated through TIM are based on an extensive set of parameters, including VIN-specific information, details surrounding the condition of the car and the impact of the specific vehicle's history and after-market equipment. Because of this, TIM offers are 100% backed by AutoTrader.com, so consumers can be confident in the offer generated, and dealers can maximize wholesale profit since they don't have to worry about losing money if they decide to take the car to auction rather than resell it themselves.
Here's how it works:
- A consumer interested in trading in his or her vehicle accesses Trade-In Marketplace on Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep's web site or in the participating dealership via a stand-alone kiosk or desktop computer.
- The seller inputs information about the vehicle, including the make and model, the model year, major factory-installed options, other upgrades and maintenance information and details about the condition, including any major repairs or accident damage.
- TIM will calculate a price based on historical transaction data for hundreds of thousands of vehicles and up-to-the-minute supply and demand information and produce a printable purchase offer. The system will also provide consumers accessing the system at home a list of participating dealerships.
- The seller can take that purchase offer to a participating dealer in the area or, if the seller is using the system in a dealership, to a dealer representative right there.
- The dealer will inspect the car to confirm the car's condition and then the seller can use the funds toward the purchase of their next vehicle or simply walk away with a check.
According to Conrad Letson, Operating Manager for Greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep, “The third-party transparency provided on trade-in valuations, gives us credibility which makes the trade-in conversation much easier.”
TIM reached a notable milestone in February, generating the three millionth Instant Trade-In Offer since January 2010. In the last year alone, the volume of offers has increased 62 percent. TIM also experienced a single-day record of 9,000 offers generated on February 20.

Companies have applications for most smartphones out there to help people find the cheapest gas in town. I tried out several applications and narrowed the selection to two that I found the easiest to use: GasBuddy and YP Yellow Pages & Gas Prices.
GasBuddy
Available for Android, iPhone and Blackberry. It launches quickly, with a big, green gas-pump button in the center of the screen labeled "Find Gas Near Me." Just push it, and prices pop up based on your GPS location. You can sort by distance or price. GasBuddy also clames to award points for every gas price reported. toward a weekly prize give-aways of a $250 gas gift card.
